Kestrel Landing

taking off
This morning I had a special treat.  An American Kestrel was perched on its favorite goal post, and I approached it slowly hoping to get a decent photo while staying as inconspicuous as possible.  Then, as they always seem to do, it flew off.  I watched it go and thought to myself, "better luck next time" for about the 100th time.  But I didn't realize that my next time would come in a mere 3 seconds.  The Kestrel turned around and flew right back to where it was perched, and I was able to photograph it in flight.  These are easily my best in-flight Kestrel shots.  The only thing that would have made my morning better is if that goal post was a tree branch.  Better luck next time...
