American Kestrel with Lunch

American Kestrel
This past Saturday at Merritt Island NWR I found an American Kestrel perched on the top of a tree eating his lunch.  This Kestrel was in almost the same place where I had seen a Merlin eating a Ruddy Turnstone a couple weeks ago.  Usually, these little falcons fly off when I approach, even when I'm in my car.  But this one stayed perched as I drove by.  As I drove nearer I saw why.  It was finishing his lunch.  Unfortunately, I arrived too late to see what exactly he was eating; I caught only the "tail end" of his meal (no pun intended).  I stayed in my car so as not to spook him and just enjoyed him enjoying his lunch, with just the sounds of my shutter tripping and  the waves at the Canaveral National Seashore behind me.
