Yellow-throated Warbler

Yellow-throated Warbler
Yellow-throated Warblers are one of my favorite warblers. Found throughout the southeastern U.S., they are black and white with a bright yellow throat--pretty to look at and fun to watch foraging in the trees.  Photographing them can be a challenge because they don't frequently like to stoop down to our level.  They tend to stay at or near the upper canopy of trees.  So most of my photos are looking up to these wonderful little birds.

These photos were taken at Fort De Soto Park earlier this week.  I found this one in the shady portion of the tree, and so the sun was in front of me and to my right.    This means that the sky could be bright enough to make make my shutter speed too slow.  So I compensated by about +2/3 stop.  I set my ISO to 500 to make sure I still had a fast enough shutter speed to get sharp photos.

  1. Scott, terrific captures of a most beautiful bird! I've had the pleasure of seeing just one of these warblers while vacationing down in Florida. I was so thrilled. My photographs were not nearly as fantastic as yours.
