Central Winds Park
Black-throated Green Warbler
I went to Mead Gardens yesterday, and it was really slow.  After I found only two warbler species, I decided to go where I knew things would be good.  I was not disappointed.  Between a couple other birders and me, we had 17 warblers on the morning:  Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Black-and-white Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Yellow Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Palm Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, and two I didn't see: Prothonotary Warbler and Worm-eating Warbler.  This Black-throated Green Warbler is the first of the Fall for me.  The other photographic highlight was a Black-and-white Warbler.

  1. It's good to see the positive attitude on your "first" of Fall sighting of Black-throated Green Warbler, Scott. Thanks to a recent schooling by Walt Winton, it appears you have presented a female Black-and-white Warbler. An effort will be made on my part in the future, when able, to be so precise. Tom Obrock today advised me that female warblers typically arrive before the males. Great information. Whenever I visit your blog, my anti-virus software advises me of a potential malicious URL (feathered photography) as blocked.

  2. Thanks, Bob! That's interesting that feathered photography is flagged by your computer. That's Ron Dudley's blog, and I've visited many times (at least once per week), and I've never had an issue.

  3. What a great warbler day! I've been seeing what my British friends would call "dribs and drabs" of migrants. I may have to expand my horizons and travel a bit further east!
I visit Ron's blog several times a week and have never had any security issues at all.

  4. Thanks Wally! If you come out to CWP, let me know. Maybe we can do some birding together. I'll show you all my favorite spots.
